CHESAPEAKE EMERGENCY PHYSICIANS (CEP) HAS REACHED AN IMPASSE WITH ANTHEM BLUE CROSS BLUE SHIELD OF VIRGINIA

Chesapeake Emergency Physicians (CEP) has reached an impasse with Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield of Virginia over a renewal of its provider contract that ends on January 31, 2016.

The issue concerns reimbursement levels from Anthem for the most frequently provided physician services at Chesapeake Regional Healthcare’s Emergency Department.  Anthem is offering CEP a level of reimbursement for these services that is substantially less than what is being paid for medical care at the surrounding Emergency Departments.

Equitable and fair compensation from Anthem will allow CEP to maintain the highest level of physician coverage, a must when it comes to providing quality and efficient care for our patients.  This also allows CEP the ability to recruit and retain the most qualified doctors and physician assistants.

“Over the past forty years, our physicians have served as the emergency health care safety net for our community, providing care for all patients who came through our doors,” said CEP’s Dr. David Pitrolo.

“Regardless of the outcome with Anthem,” Dr. Pitrolo added, “we will continue to provide the highest level of emergency care for all those in need of compassionate, quality medical services.”

CEP remains willing to work with Anthem to resolve this issue and continues to hope for a fair and equitable agreement.
